Turkey and Trot

Thanksgiving is such a fabululous holiday...family, food, and running. Three of my favorite things! Dad pulled off his 8th annual Turkey Trot in true Richard Davis form. This year, not only were we required to have staggared start times so that we would all finish "at the same time," but it became an adventure race of sorts with a scavenger hunt thrown in the mix. Running 4.7 miles in perfect weather is a great way to start a day of feasting. And I still can't believe that I didn't go back for seconds or eat any dessert for lunch. What was I thinking?

We had about 40 family members and friends over for lunch. Three types of turkey (baked, smoked, and fried...thank you Steve!), ham, and a slew of southern sides and desserts make for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you Mama and Daddy. You are the best!

We ended the day by going to the movies. Mama and Daddy babysat for the sibs with kids and took off to see Blindside...until one of the sibs decided to see New Moon...alone. Of course we couldn't let someone go to the movie alone so three of headed to New moon and the others went to Blindside. (No names to protect the innocent.) That made two times in a week for me...good thing it's easy on the eyes. Lol.

We came back home on Friday so Steve could go to work. But then something amazing happened...we spent the afternoon, evening, and all of Saturday and today together!! It has been soooo wonderful. Over the past few months, if I saw Steve on his way out the door when I was walking in or before I went to bed I considered it a good day. Spending days together was a lovely treat. We organized one of our bedrooms and the garage. And put up our Christmas tree. And listened to hours of Christmas music. And loved it!

Party like it's 1999!

Yesterday, Steve and I attended my 10-year high school reunion. It's so funny how things change but stay the same. Most of my classmates still live in the same small town where we went to school and their children will do the same. Of those who moved away, most still reside within GA. The turnout was bigger than expected and we had a good time. Not being able to attend the 5-year reunion because I was serving a mission in AZ, I was amazed at how many classmates I had not seen since graduation. Since most of us had been in the same classes since Kindergarten, we share memories of our entire school experience. It was, therefore, easy to pick up where we left off- almost like we hadn't missed a beat. Despite dramatic changes in technology (i.e. in high school, beepers were all the rage and only a handful of people had cell phones and email accounts-lol), most people have the same sense of humor and mannerisms and enjoy the same activities. A few people had changed physically, but it was interesting to note how many people looked the same. I think I look the same and apparently others did also considering I was voted "Least Changed." Haha. It must be genetics because my dad was won the same award at one of his class reunions! Unfortunately, not all of my inherited traits are quite so desirable :) I left last night with an increased sense of gratitude for both my life's path up to this point and the direction I am headed. And I am more grateful for a dedicated husband who willingly tagged along.
